365 Photos Day 26: Phred
This is Phred. He's our Phrenology head. Harrison picked him up years ago in an antique shop in Black Mountain. He's a really interesting conversation piece, and was carefully packed to come with us across the country. Phrenology is the idea that, since the brain is compartmentalized, a person's skull shape can tell you a lot about his or her personality and mental capacity. In the early 1800s, scientists were still uncertain whether or not different parts of the brain had different functions. So, phrenology is a pseudoscience that just happened to be on the right side of a scientific debate of it's time. It's complete bunk, but interesting to read about.
